Generating Evidence for Sustainable Irrigated Agriculture in Ethiopia’s Lowlands: A Data Driven Approach to Soil Health and Agricultural Policy

Job Summary

ICBA is implementing a project in Ethiopia to provide technical support to the ongoing project on “Generating Evidence for Sustainable Irrigated Agriculture in Ethiopia’s Lowlands: A Data Driven Approach to Soil Health and Agricultural Policy.  This is a GIZ-funded project implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with national and international partners. ICBA is contracted by the GIZ-Ethiopia to provide technical backstopping support to this project. The consultant will mainly support implementation of the project work plan. He will work closely with the Ministry and other stakeholders for smooth operation of the project. He will assist in organizing trainings, workshop, and seminars in Ethiopia.

Job Responsibilities

The consultant will provide support to the GIZ-LLRP related to field activities, repot writing, asset management including:

  • Liaison with the project team for the implementation of different activities in different regions in Ethiopia.
  • Assist in the collection of soil, water, and salinity data from different sources and provide technical assistance to national partners on data management and analysis.
  • Assist in writing reports on strategies for the salinity management in the salt-affected areas of Ethiopia.
  • Represent ICBA in all meetings organized by the project coordinator in Ethiopia. 
  • Organize and contribute to training and other project activities.
  • Take care of ICBA financial accounts in Ethiopia.
  • Assist in the writing of progress reports and other technical reports related to project activities.
  • Implementation of project activities, data collection, trainings, stakeholder meetings conducted and contributions in technical and other reports.
  • Financial report on the expenses incurred during that month.

*Travel in different regions of Ethiopia where this project is being implemented. 

Qualifications and Experience
  • Phd in Soil Science/Agronomy/crop management.
  • At least 10 years of experience in relevant field.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and  Ethiopian.
