Plant Molecular Biologist
Job Summary
Develop and manage work related to Molecular Biology on developing improved plant varieties tolerant to abiotic stresses, including salinity- and water stress.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop projects related to area of expertise in Plant Molecular Biology in line with ICBA mandate, and procure internal and external funding
- Design and conduct experiments and assist other scientists and network partners as relevant to area of expertise Conduct research on different aspects of biotechnology and genetic engineering including; Functional genomics; molecular markers and mapping; genotyping and phenotyping; plant molecular biology and plant biotechnology
- Develop and implement outreach programs in collaboration with NARS, international organizations, and other stakeholders
- Assist in the formation of networks with regional, national and international institutions and take part in those already in place, and conduct collaborative or cooperative research with network partners
- Develop and take part in workshops, conferences and training programs for scientists and regional specialists in area of expertise
- Prepare scientific reports and publications on area of expertise
- Assist in the preparation of ICBA publications, including the newsletter
- Supervise associate scientists, technicians and field workers
- Assist in the preparation of the Technical Programs budget
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Ph.D. in molecular genetics, generic engineering, biotechnology or related field
- At least 5 years’ experience in plant molecular genetics and related fields
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- International work experience
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Arabic
