Integrated agri-aquaculture systems

Integrated agri-aquaculture systems

This work aims to support national and international efforts to increase food and nutrition security by bringing all available degraded land and water resources into use. The overall goal is to help reduce environmental footprint, increase incomes of farming communities and improve their adaptive capacities to climate change.

Areas of applied research:

  • Inland and seawater-based integrated agri-aquaculture systems;
  • Fish waste and livestock manure composting and management;
  • Agroforestry systems integrating non-traditional crops for forage and biofuel production;
  • Algae production in integrated farms for biofuel and other uses.

Policy

We help decision-makers devise policies and regulations to promote safe use of low-quality water resources and the proper implementation of integrated agri-aquaculture systems.
