Every year ICBA offers several internships and fellowships to young women students and researchers from around the world to conduct studies at its world-class facilities. The center also focuses a great deal of efforts on offering research opportunities to women from the Middle East and North Africa region.
As part of its capacity-building initiatives, ICBA works with different partners to empower women researchers in the Arab world to become future leaders in science. Under its pioneering program called Tamkeen, the center organized a pilot training course in April 2017 for a group of women researchers from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman and Palestine.

ICBA’s internship program brings together students from around the world. The program helps interns to gain practical research experience and collaborate and network with their peers.
Under the guidance of world-renowned scientists, interns practice and carry out research at state-of-the-art facilities.
Hamda Al-Masoum is one of many interns who have benefitted from ICBA’s internship program. A bachelor’s student at Zayed University, UAE, she conducted a comparative analysis of crop production under greenhouse and net-house conditions as part of her internship at ICBA.
During his internship at ICBA, Xiaohan Long, a master’s student at Columbia University, USA, was involved in a project to develop a treated wastewater knowledge hub.
Internships that help young people springboard into global job market

With a global unemployment crisis among the youth looming large, governments and international organizations are right to worry about an alarming rise in the number of young people out of work.
During its visit to ICBA, the delegation led by H.E. Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, UAE, toured the center’s research facilities and experimental fields. H.E. Sultan Al Shamsi was accompanied by Professor Abdulrahman Sultan Alsharhan, Chair of the ICBA Board of Directors; Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, ICBA’s Director General; and ICBA scientists.
H.E. Sultan Al Shamsi also learnt about a unique collection of exhibits showing soil types in the UAE at the Emirates Soil Museum.
Dr. Ismahane Elouafi told H.E. Sultan Al Shamsi about ICBA’s research work on an innovative net-house technology suited to hot and arid conditions. The center has been studying energy and water use efficiency of this technology under UAE conditions.

A delegation led by H.E. Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, UAE, visited the headquarters of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) on 27 August 2017 to learn about the center’s research for development activities and discuss opportunities for collaboration.
