FAO hosts discussions on global agro-diversification action plan

Directors General of the Association of International Research and Development Centers for Agriculture (AIRCA), a nine-strong grouping focused on increasing food security by supporting smallholder agriculture and rural enterprise around the world, gathered recently at an annual meeting at the FAO HQ in Rome, Italy, to discuss joint initiatives on agro-diversification for 2017.
Dr. Mohammad Shahid, a geneticist at the Dubai-based International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), has uncovered and documented eight plant species previously unknown to exist in the UAE.
In order to achieve gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in science, and to achieve their full and equal access to and participation in science, the United Nations declared 11 February of each year the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
