Long-term experiment for evaluation of salinity tolerance among large collections of buffel grass
Objectives
- Assess the long-term impact of salinity on buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris) germplasm growth and productivity, as well as soil
- Evaluate the selected accessions for forage quality under saline conditions
- Determine best management practices for forage crops in marginal regions
Experiment Details
Planting date: 2007
Field Variables:
- A total number of 40 germplasm accessions
- Salinity levels: 3 (8 dS/m, 16 dS/m, and 24 dS/m)
- The plots were arranged in strips where each genotype was grown in 2 rows of 4 meters.
