Dr. Merle Jensen is the founder of the Controlled Environment Agriculture Center (CEAC) and Professor Emeritus of Plant Life Sciences at the University of Arizona, USA. He has worked in the field for over four decades and has supported agricultural programs in over 60 countries around the world.

ICBA plays host to veteran US biosaline agriculture scientist

The first agreement was signed during an awards ceremony of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in Abu Dhabi in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance of the UAE, within the framework of Article 15 of the FAO International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.

FAO, ICBA ink agreements to save plant genetic resources, boost food security in world’s marginal areas

On the eve of International Women's Day, the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and CGIAR Research Program on Wheat launched a call for applications for the first edition of the Arab Women Leaders in Agriculture (Awla) fellowship program for women researchers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Arab Women Leaders in Agriculture (Awla) fellowship program opens call for applications

The study was part of the Rehabilitation and Management of Salt-affected Soils to Improve Agricultural Productivity (RAMSAP) project. Funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the five-year project (2015-2019) is aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, food security and income for smallholder farmers, agro-pastoral/pastoral communities in Ethiopia and South Sudan.

Dr. Ismahane Elouafi joins CABI Board

Placing his grandson on his shoulder, Adylbek leads us to the field. In the beginning of August, he planted pearl millet and sorghum to use for green mass in winter. His grandson, three-year-old Magjan named after a famous Kazakh poet, insists on him going to other fields too so that we take photos of him with watermelon. Adylbek follows the toddler’s request. “His parents have just departed for Kazakhstan, that’s why the child is distressed,” he justifies.

Farmers in Jordan catch up with biosaline agriculture

Under this agreement, ICBA and ADFSC will, among other things, strengthen cooperation to develop projects aimed at improving the productivity of date palm trees, vegetables and fodder crops that are being grown in highly saline soils, and study water requirements of date palm, fodders and other crops.

ICBA, Abu Dhabi farming authority ink deal to help local farmers

The improved lines were first tested in different agroecological zones from Tashkent Region and the Syrdarya River basin to sandy soils of the Kyzylkum desert. A special focus was made on the introduction of quinoa in marginal lands of the Aral Sea area, a region with low-yielding and extremely saline soils.
